The Diedrich Rulfs StatueMr. Rulfs, 1848-1926, was a prominent architect who changed the landscape of the community with his commercial buildings and private residences. More than forty Rulfs structures are still standing in Nacogdoches including Zion Hill First Baptist Church and many downtown buildings. Rulfs was commissioned to design one of a kind homes for local residents and his works include some of the best examples of Victorian domestic architecture in the state of Texas.

A sculpture of architect Diedrich Rulfs was dedicated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 141 North Church St. at the corner of Hospital and Church streets.
The bronze sculpture is a likeness of the German-born architect who designed most of Nacogdoches’ elegant historic homes from the late 1800s to 1926. Fort Worth sculptor Michael Pavlosky (click here for Pavlosky's website) created a bronze of Rulfs sketching the Roland Jones home Rulfs designed in 1897. This is the seventh sculpture in the oldest town in Texas produced by the Friends of Historic Nacogdoches Inc. as part of the Heritage Walk that gives a pictorial tour of the leaders of Nacogdoches’ diverse history.
